Looking for ways to support "acceleration" in your math classes?? Try the Learning Target Sheets (also called Topic Overviews)

Lafayette Math successfully using and there are examples attached for Algebra 2 but can be used in "all" classes.

Learning Target Sheets (also referred to as Topic Overviews)

They are soooo simple and have become an integral part of many secondary classes.

1. At the beginning of the unit, the teacher prints out a blank copy, usually on brightly colored paper, and passes it out to students.
Sometimes, they only list the title of each session; sometimes, they have a little more information pre-printed. This gives students a preview of what to expect from the unit. They can see how long the unit will be, estimate when the test will be, plan as needed, etc. At first, it's basically a table of contents for the unit.

2. At the end of each lesson, or perhaps the beginning of the next day, students summarize what the previous lesson was about and write it on this sheet.
We include any important vocabulary, formulas, example problems,... This can be easily differentiated for different levels.

3. At the end of the unit, the students have a one-page reference sheet for the entire unit. It serves as a study guide and helps them know which section of their notes they should go back to when studying.

4. Even better, at the end of the semester, students have one of these for each unit, and it helps them study for finals!
