I am Metty Jiju, working at the College of Engineering, University of Kentucky. We conduct a summer program named BEST (Building Engineering, Science and Technology) for high school students who will complete 10th grade in Spring 2009. I am coordinating UK BEST camp for high school students this year in summer during June 7-12, 2009.

This one week residential program provides a pre-engineering curriculum to students who are interested in pursuing an engineering degree and who will contribute to the diversity of the educational experience in the College of Engineering. This unique opportunity to gain pre-engineering academic skills will prepare students for their junior and senior year of high school, as well as their college engineering career. Additionally, students will get an inside view of the exceptional opportunities the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky holds as they preview life as a Wildcat. The UK BEST program is scheduled for June 7-12, 2009. Course work is hands on problem solving and requires use of pre-calculus math, chemistry, physics, engineering design, and college leadership skills. Applicants are accepted for UK BEST based on a comprehensive individualized assessment. The cost is $350 for the applicants selected for the camp. There is no fee for applying. To find out how to apply, please visit our website at: http://www.engr.uky.edu/outreach/UKBEST.html

I am hoping to reach under-represented populations in UK College of Engineering. I would greatly appreciate if you are able to get the word out about UK BEST program. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Thank you.
