Today I had students graph an equation such as y = 3x - 2 in their calculator and graph it. We had just studied slope so I showed them how to use the trace function to find two points on the line. then what I asked them to do was to find the slope using their two points. Even students who picked different points found they had the same slope. It felt great to hear students say that it didn't matter what two points they picked; they would still get the same slope. A small success but still....

A fun activity you can do with you kids with slope and plotting points is to use your tile floor as a coordinate plane (if you have a tile floor). Use colored tape to create a x and y axis on the floor. Have students come up and plot coordinates themselves as you give them points. They can even use string to connect with each other to make lines on the coordinate plane.

That is such a good idea! Getting the kids up and moving and excited about math should certainly be our goal!
