These are two activities I used in my class with much success.

naFindDig1.pdf:
I put my kids into groups of 3 and they had to work as a team to get the solution first. They worked well and many got it.

The word document:
• First have the students circle the easiest variable to solve for in each system
• then have them solve for that above mentioned variable
• then have them substitute the variable into the other equation
• then have them simplify and solve.
During each step of the process, I had students put up answers to that particular phase while I circulated and helped students in need of re-teaching. We would not move on to the next step until everybody was on the same page and compared answers. They really separated and understood the significance of each step. I knew this because I then had them write their steps and methods on the back to sum up and reflect the process.

I did the nafind.... with my algebra 1 students and they loved it. I was very impressed how well they worked to find the solutions. Some even asked if I had a harder puzzle. Thanks for the great idea!!!
