I was trying to think of something I could do on Wednesday since my students will be done with their finals. I thought I would give them 30 minutes to complete 30 ACT problems using the ACT answer sheet. Any problems they get correct will be extra credit. What do you all think? Has anyone else tried this before and have suggestions or comments?

I have not tried this, but I have been doing some practice with the kids. Remember that the problems get harder as they go one. You could pick out 30 problems that practice the skills in the class they are in as well as their previous classes.
When we do ACT review, we typically work through the Plane Geometry problems, because they have a hard time remembering that when they haven't used it in a long time.

I think that sounds great. And I'm sure Natalee would agree as she wants all of us to be doing ACT practice as often as possible. We'll still be giving finals that last day.

I love that idea, i was trying to come up with something to do with my kids, that is a great idea. Where are you getting all the practice problems from?

Somewhere along the way, we got a book on preparing for the ACT Math and Science... of course I cannot find it at the moment, but I will let you know when I do. It is a fantastic book.
You can also ask your counseling office for old partice books. Even if they have seen the questions before, they don't always know how to do it.

Have you checked out the ACT/CATS practice that Ali has put on the Lafayette page. Those are good too. The book is Amsco's Preparing fo the ACT mathematics & Science reasoning. Natalee, I think everyone could benefit from a book like this (hint, hint). It is just so hard to find good, unique ACT questions.

Yes, Natalee, if someone else already has some good ACT questions, it would save us time in coming up with our own. Good thinking Sarah!

This is something we should all be practicing not only with our juniors but 9th and 10th as well. Don't you think so?

Definitely, and hopefully all of us are doing this. The sooner we get them used the type of questions asked on the ACT and the concept of timing them, the better they should perform when they are juniors.

I would love to start using the ACT practice problems in both my Geometry and statistics classes. If they were posted so that we could all share what we create...I think that would benefit everyone.

Maybe we could even get these organized into a "binder" that can be shared with all the math departments as a resource.

As long as we are asking. Does anyone have any questions organized by subcategories? This way we can start using them in the Algebra I and Geometry classes.

We are going to try to put together something for HC. Once we get it finished I'd be happy to share with everyone.

Great idea. Whenever I do ACT practice problems, I try to do 4-5 once a week, I use the CPS. This way, the activity is kind of interactive, and the kids get prompt feedback.

We plan on using them as warm-ups each day. Incorporating multiple choice daily will help the students with standardized testing. Hopefully
