Mathematics Instructional Learning Community
The Mathematics Instructional Learning Community (MILC) Project is an alliance among Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) math teachers focusing on:
  • Increasing the pedagogy and content knowledge of math teachers;
  • Integrating technology tools into everyday math instruction; and
  • Developing, implementing and revising units of study.

Subject: MILC Unit 1-1
The variable expression cards from MILC unit 1-1 worked very well. We put all the cards on sticky notes as well as the various catagories up on the walls and had students up moving around the room placing the notes into the proper catagory. Finally, we led pairs through a academic dialogue activity which asked students to discuss what they saw around the room in the various catagories.

I tried this too. I ran the sheets off on card stock and gave each student several cards. They had to find the correct category on the board and post their card. The students seemed to like this activity.
