The Mathematics Instructional Learning Community (MILC) Project is an alliance among Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) math teachers focusing on:
  • Increasing the pedagogy and content knowledge of math teachers;
  • Integrating technology tools into everyday math instruction; and
  • Developing, implementing and revising units of study.

While using the document camera and after completing a work-a-long sheet with my class, I save the sheet that I wrote on and give it to a student that was absent. This way they have a record of all the examples that were worked out in class while they were gone.

I do the same thing each day but with all our notes. I then keep a notebook for each class and if someone is absent they can copy all the notes and examples. I can even send notes to SAFE or for suspensions. mg

Once I started doing this the better students began asking for the saved notes. They really appreciate having these and it takes no time at all. When I finish with notes I just write the names of the students that were absent on it and the date and offer it to them upon their return. I really think it has made a huge difference with these kids.
