Mathematics Instructional Learning Community
The Mathematics Instructional Learning Community (MILC) Project is an alliance among Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) math teachers focusing on:
  • Increasing the pedagogy and content knowledge of math teachers;
  • Integrating technology tools into everyday math instruction; and
  • Developing, implementing and revising units of study.

Math Teams participate in practice matches.

They also join in the Regional MathCounts Competition at the University of Kentucky each February.

For students who excel at the Regional Chapter Competition, they extend their competition fun at State MathCounts in March each year.

Hello, Math Team Coaches! When it is time for MathCounts? This will be a HELPFUL reminder to read and then share with mathletes and families -

Yes, mathletes can wear a watch.

Cell phones are not allowed in the competition room. Coaches will need a tote bag to store the expensive phones for the mathletes.

Coaches must keep up with MathCounts paperwork and certificates. Again, that tote bag will be handy.

You may want to ensure that handy tote bag/backpack has room for t-shirts. T-shirts are provided for the mathletes and the coach.

While we serve a “snack” breakfast, please encourage kids to eat at home before arrival. We need minds alert and ready!

Pizza will be served. There is no gluten-free option. We have cheese or pepperoni.

Coaches should take calculators HOME with them on Friday. Load in your car early in the day that Friday BEFORE the competition, so you don’t forget! We will not have extras.

The awards will provide a great time to get a team photo. Someone will be happy to use your cell phone or camera to get that memorable photograph for your yearbook and more! Every team will be recognized, and the top mathlete from each school will win a medal.

All team members will come forward WITH their coach for that part of the presentation. All teams will sit together with their coach during the Countdown Round.

Math Team Coaches!

On Competition Saturday, make sure that your team wears their "math team clothing" or "school logo-ish shirts" so that you match!!
This serves 2 purposes: First, it is a safety measure to keep mathletes safe, and second, it helps graders and proctors ensure your team gets THEIR materials!

Please be sure to work this out AND let parents know.

This was created for the Regional Chapter Competition in 2025, BUT it will be the SAME OR VERY close this year and every year!!

Be sure to locate the Parking Structure. It is CLOSE, but just be informed and make sure your parents are told too.
