Math Posts: 58 Location: PL Dunbar | I did not give my Chapter 9 test but instead had the kids create a presentation on systems of equations and it went REALLY well! You can see some of the powerpoints they created on my webpage http://www.staff.fcps.net/szehnder/ under student work. The kids worked really well together and did a fantastic job of presenting the material. Something different for sure, but I liked it Attachments ---------------- Chapter 9 Presentations.doc (24KB - 338 downloads)

Math Posts: 76 Location: PL Dunbar | Did each student do one, or were they in groups? How did you ensure that each kid did their part? Kudos for being creative

Math Posts: 58 Location: PL Dunbar | they could work in groups of 2 or 3 but no more than 3. one kid could be the"recorder" in which he or she created the powerpoint or overhead documents but did not have to talk during the presentation. some did them individually. i really had to monitor them to make sure they were all working. the grade was broken into 3 parts - 25 points for preparation - so i could take points off if i saw that someone did not work at all - 25 points for attentiveness during other's presentations - they had to record what the other's presented or rate the presentation and each time they talked during a presentation i took off a point from the final grade - and 50 points for the actual presentation. those who did not talk during the presentation got their points for standing as moral support and creating the documents. it was definitely a challenge for me to make sure they were all working - but i only had about 5 total that did not work out of 4 classes!
