Math Posts: 76 Location: Henry Clay | Has there been a discussion about keeping making two tests for this unit? It seems like a long time to go without an official exam between chapters. Thoughts?

Math Location: IAKSS | Most teachers give the 1/2 chapter test. You might see Betty Hester's recent post. She and Mo revised the 1/2 chapter test that was posted.

Math Posts: 37 Location: Lafayette | Some teachers at Lafayette give a Quiz/Test over 1.1 - 1.9. Some teachers count it as a quiz grade and some count it as a test grade.

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | There is the option of giving a chapter 1 test and a chapter 2 quiz. I agree that it is a long time for a test, but the material is so closely related to each other. I am really on the fence with this issue.

Math Posts: 58 Location: PL Dunbar | I did a quiz for most of chapter 1 and then gave a test on Chapters 1and2 from the MILC final unit. We have peer tutors in our Algebra I classes this year (seniors in calc or juniors in precalc) who i had pull students out and conference with them on the quizes. Low and behold...the tests were pretty darn good! I haven't calculated the averages yet...but just from glancing i think it really helped them to get the one on one feedback from a peer. The tutors really liked it as well.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I also did a quiz over ch.1 and then tested over ch. 1 and 2 and I think that it worked out OK. Most of those concepts should have been covered in 8th grade - maybe not with variables as much - but the concepts are not new.

Math Posts: 108 Location: Henry Clay | Believe me, there was nothing new in Chapters 1,2. They've seen plenty of variables in 8th grade. They've also solved equations and graphed simple lines.

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | Sometimes I feel like 1 and 2 is so basic that I want to fly though it or skip it so I can spend more time on the newer topics, but there are always people in class that need it. Any suggestions?

Math Posts: 76 Location: PL Dunbar | thanks for all of the information from each high school. I'll use the two test approach just to make sure they get that first really great grade on a math test. Just like that article said at the beginning of the year.....
